• Defending first party suits against insurers following large scale disasters such as hurricanes, tropical storms, and wildfires – particularly property damage suits brought under homeowners’ and commercial policies;
• Defending insurers in suits brought under uninsured/underinsured motorist policies;
• Initiating coverage suits, including initiation of declaratory judgment actions to determine the rights or responsibilities of a particular insurer;
• Representing insurers in suits where the insurer is asserting a policy exclusion as a grounds for denying a claim, including arson and vacancy;
• Defending suits in which the insured claims breach of contract under the insured’s policy;
• Defending suits in which an insured asserts extra-contractual claims including claims for alleged violations of the duty of good faith and fair dealing and claims under the Texas Insurance Code and the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act.

The firm’s attorneys also provide coverage opinions for any type of policy including the legal effect of any indemnity agreements outside of the policy which may allocate liability to other parties.  They also have experience providing legal guidance with claim investigations – particularly in fire and suspicious loss cases (including examinations under oath).
